Press Release

Re Andrew Mackinlay’s Motion before British Irish Parliamentary  calling for Deferment of Cancellation of the Reciprocal Health Agreement between UK & Isle of Man.

February 23, 2010

The British Irish Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Cavan Ireland voted this morning 23rd Feb 2010 unanimously to Andrew Mackinlay MP’s motion call for the deferment of the Cancellation of the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the UK and Isle of Man, the motion also called for discussions to be held between all devolved Governments.

The Chairman of the BIPA, Paul Murphy is asking for a meeting with Andy Burnham Sec of State for Health, Jack Straw  Justice Sec. and Peter Hain Ministerial Leader of the UK BIPA.

Michael German of the Liberals on the Welsh Assembly said he would bring it up in the Welsh Assembly.

Concerns were put by members from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales on problems caused to travellers and also the fact that the decision was taken without consultation with any other parliament or assembly in the UK.

Support came from all points of the UK.
